Our parish, St. Theresa of the Child Jesus , came alive with joy and color on the 11th of January as we celebrated Pongal, the traditional harvest festival. It was a beautiful day where our community came together to thank God and celebrate our traditions.
A Prayerful Start :
The celebration began with a beautiful Holy Mass. The main celebrants were Fr. Ilayaraja, Fr. Anthony Paulraj, and Fr. John Paul. The Mass was truly special, made even better by the choir who sang hymns so wonderfully. It was a peaceful time to give thanks for all the blessings we have received.
Traditional Fun and Dances :
After the Mass, the cultural program started on a bright note. Our Parish Priest, Fr. Samuel Ribeiro, along with the other priests, lit the traditional lamp to begin the festivities.
The stage was then filled with energy! Children, youth, and elders all participated, wearing beautiful traditional clothes. They performed energetic dances that showed the rich culture of Tamil Nadu. It was wonderful to see the different generations dancing together with such big smiles.
Games and a Delicious Feast:
The fun didn't stop at the dances. Exciting games were organized, bringing out a lot of laughter and friendly competition among the parishioners. To end the perfect day, everyone shared a delicious traditional meal. Eating together as one big family was the best way to wrap up the celebration.

Overall, the Pongal celebration was a great success. It reminded us that no matter where we come from, we are all one in faith and love. Happy Pongal to all! -Amreena Thomas
