The STCJ Airoli Konkani Association celebrated their traditional feast of Mother Mary, known as Monti Fest, on 14th September 2025 with great devotion and joy.
The celebration began with a Solemn Konkani Mass by Fr. Maxim D'silva. After the Eucharist, the statue of Baby Mother Mary was carried in a devotional procession to St. Joseph’s Hall, accompanied by the singing of melodious Konkani Marian hymns. At the Grotto, flowers were showered in honor of Mother Mary, followed by prayers. Snacks were then served to all gathered.
The cultural programme commenced at 11:30am with a warm welcome address by the Konkani Committee Head, Mr. Edwin Gras, who also felicitated the priests and religious present. The inaugural prayer was led by former parish priest, Fr. Joe D’Mello, who along with the religious sisters, blessed the Nove. The traditional milk drink was then distributed to all

The event was anchored gracefully by Mrs. Reema Vaz, whose lively style kept the audience engaged with fun elements and cheerful interaction. The stage came alive with a variety of performances – children’s dances, prayer dance, solo singing, group dances, games for all age groups, and a quiz. An interview session with Ms. Lavina Correa shed light on various Mangalorean traditions connected with Monti Fest.

The highlight of the program was a Konkani skit (Natkule) titled “Kutumache Fest”, which brought much laughter while also imparting a meaningful message.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Arun Colaco, and Grace before meals was led by Fr. Joe D’Mello. The day concluded with a sumptuous traditional vegetarian meal served on banana leaves, followed by the distribution of Kabbu (sugarcane), an age-old tradition of Monti Fest.

The celebration witnessed the joyful participation of about 175 parishioners. It was indeed a memorable event, beautifully organized by the Konkani Association of STCJ Airoli Parish. May Mother Mary’s blessings be upon all, and may she intercede for every prayer placed before her Son, Jesus Christ. -Mrs. Felicia Tauro
