They say that the best season to play football is none other than the monsoon season and our sports committee decided to organize a football tournament this time for all football lovers from our parish. Similar to Cricket and Table Tennis, it was a fun auction based tournament based on points. Savaryson Nadar (Supa Strikas), Darren Mascarenhas (Shadow Blitz), Rex D'souza (Mavericks) and Aman Chabukswar (The F50's) agreed to be the captains of the 4 teams. Each team captain was given a total of 5000 points to choose a team of 8 players in total including them out of which 6 would be on the field and 2 would play the role of a substitute. After the auctions on the 15th of August, these were the teams that were formed; all with only one aim - to be the champions of the inaugural Airoli Super League.

The tournament kicked off on Sunday, 31st August at 7pm sharp at Hatrics Euro School Turf, Sector 19, Airoli and it promised a lot of goals, saves, tackles, misses and entertainment. With 32 players and over 20 spectators in attendance on an evening which had some unpredictable rain, we kicked off with the first match between Shadow Blitz and The F50's; both teams looked balanced on paper and it was Shadow Blitz who saw the light shine on them with a 2-0 victory and they earned 3 points for the same. The next match promised to be a blockbuster with Supa Strikas taking on Mavericks. It was the Mavericks who led 2-0 at Half Time but the Supa Strikas fought back with everything they had and scored 2 goals to make it 2-2 at Full Time with both teams sharing 1 point each. Shadow Blitz and Supa Strikas took on each other next & the Supa Strikas showed exactly why they were a goal scoring force as they managed to take the win with a score of 4-1 and in the process became table toppers with 4 points. Mavericks and The F50's went head to head next & the match saw a lot of twists and turns with Mavericks and The F50's scoring one after the other, however, it was Mavericks who were too good at the final whistle and they edged this one out with a score of 4-2 which meant that The F50's were eliminated from the tournament. Shadow Blitz and Mavericks now played each other in a virtual semi final as the winner would be guaranteed a place in the finals and the loser will be guaranteed elimination but it was Mavericks who played under no pressure and put on a show for everyone watching with a 4-0 victory. They also eliminated Shadow Blitz from the tournament. The last league match was between The F50's who were already eliminated and Supa Strikas who had already qualified for the finals. Supa Strikas took no chances and edged out The F50's with a score of 3-0 to setup a dream final with the only 2 unbeaten teams. The finals had the perfect script - 2 unbeaten teams, 2 teams who had scored the most goals and conceded the least number of goals going head to head to decide the winner. The league match between them ended 2-2 and both teams had a game plan in mind for the finals. After an epic final, it was the Supa Strikas that won 2-0 against Mavericks and they were crowned the champions of the Airoli Super League. They left the tournament undefeated whilst scoring the most goals (11) and conceding the least (3). The captain of the Supa Strikas Savaryson Nadar was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament & Anlon Almeida (Supa Strikas) and John Varghese (Mavericks) shared the top goal scorer award with 5 goals each. Overall, it was another successful tournament for our football lovers who enjoyed every bit of the tournament. The day ended with a short and sweet prize distribution ceremony & a lot of photos with a promise of many more tournaments in the near future.
